INADEQUATE!
POLICE SUPERVISION. ON HAURAKI PLAINS. EXTRA OFFICER SOUGHT. The inadequacy of police supervision in the Hauraki Plains County was referred to in a communication from the Council to the Under-Secretary of Justice. It was pointed out that one officer was stationed at Kercpeehi and appeared to have an area of about 300 square miles in his charge. No complaint Avhatever was inferred regarding the efficiency of the police constable, who had been in charge for some years, stated the letter, neither had he complained to anybody, but the matter was introduced by a member of the Council. In view of the fact that there was a population of over 5000 in the district administered from Kerepeehi, and also that the constable had at times been much overworked, it was decided to bring the matter before the Department's notice with a view to the consideration of the appointment of an additional officer at Waitakaruru.
Tho Commissioner of Police replied that inquiries would be made and the Council advised later.
