MONEY FOR LOAN. ADVICE FROM LENDERS. PLAINS WATER SCHEME. Efforts to dispose of debentures at 3j per cent, in connection with the East District water supply scheme had so far been unsuccessful, stated the clerk, Mr. E. A. Mahoney, at yesterday's meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. A number of lending institutions had been approached, but none had any money available. "The position is not satisfactory," said Cr. F. J. Mayn. "Work has been held up, due to the efforts to obtain money at M per cent."
"The Government lias given us a lead," added Cr. Mayn, "and it is not for us to dispute that, but I feel that the onus is on the Government to provide the money."
In answer to a question, the chairman, Mr. C. W. Parfitt, said the Government had not yet been asked for the money.
At Cr. Mayn's suggestion, a resolution was carried that the Government should be asked to establish a fund to provide money for local bodies from which they could draw loan monies.
