ASSISTANT - SUPERIN TEN DENT,
MINISTER AND THE BOARD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.; WAIIII, Feb. 1. The troubles of the Waihi Hospital Board in connection with its medical staff still continue. Notwithstanding' the arrangement reached in regard to the medical staff at the recent conference with the Minister for Health, Mr. P. Fraser, the Board, at its last monthly meeting, disregarded its unanimous decision with the Minister and appointed Hr. Rosa Collier as assistant-medical superintendent by a majority vote. Dr. Collier accepted the position, then later wired, “Cannot accept/ without proffering a reason. The Board met last evening to consider tin? situation. A letter was read from the Minister, intimating that he could not see his way to approve of the appointment of Dr. Collier for the reason that it was in conllict with the arrangement which was arrived at when lie met the Board in company with the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, The Minister said he was still definitely of opinion that the proposals which were then agreed to by the Board were the most satisfactory, and would urge that the question be further considered with a view to giving effect to them. However, it
the Board still elected to appoint Dr. Collier it had the right to do so, provided the formalities of Section 38 of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act were complied with.
After a brief discussion it was ro solved to call fresh applications for assistant medical superintendent, the motion being carried by five votes to three. "
