Merger Acceptable.
TOWN BOARD AND COUNTY. ASCERTAINING WISHES OF PEOPLE. BOARD’S PURPOSE FULFILLED. At a meeting of the Turua Town Board, held on Wednesday .evening, the advisability of merging the Board with the Hauraki Plains County Council was discussed. It was decided that a be circulated among the ratepayers to ascertain the individual feeling on the question. Cr. W. Madgwick, riding member for Turua, explained the position at yesterday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council, and said that the Board had fulfilled the purpose for which it had been constituted. He did not see that there would be any benefit in the Board continuing, as at present it was working on a debit balance which would revert to the riding. Jokingly, Cr. Madgwick remarked that he was sorry not to see the Board going to the Authorities with* the request to be raised to the status of a borough. However, fate was evidently against such a move. The council agreed to raise no objection to the merger. Twelve Years’ Life. The Turua Town Board has now ’been in operation for 12 years, and during that time has carried out much work beneficial to the township in the way of road improvements, lighting facilities and in other important directions. The present Board members are: Messrs. J. M. Mules (chairman), J. T. Davis, J. McConnell, J. Schmidt, F. Olsen, H. H. Allen and S. G. Williams. The clerk is Mr. J. E. Green.
Should the merger take place, the present Board will function till the end of the financial year, March 31, 1935, after which the county will take overj and Turua will be administered as part of the county and Turua riding.
