Mercury Bay Hospital.
NEED FOR ASSISTANCE.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
In an interview regarding the fin-
ances of the Mercury Bay Hospital, the Chairman, Mr T. L. C. Lowe, stated that residents could help very materially by coming forward with
their subscriptions. A very strong effort is being made to get the Health Department to continue the subsidies on voluntary subscriptions, and provided this effort is successful, there should be little difficulty in keeping the institution going if all persons eligible to subscribe would pay up. The amount is only 9d per week for a man, wife and family up to 16 years of age, reduced to 6d per week for persons under 21 years of age, and this entitles the subscriber to free medical attention and medicines and half rates in the hospital in the event of him or his family becoming inpatients. It is now realised by everyone that the closing of the institution would be a calamity, and all should endeavour •to keep their subs paid up to date and induce their neighbours, who are not subscribers, to become so at once. The institution, not being a district hospital, cannot levy on the local body, and has no call on the rates, and is entirely dependent for its finance on subscriptions, donations, local efforts and ;i ,Govrenment subsidy.
