DEFEAT OF WANDERERS

A very heavy deluge of rain fell in the Colville district on Sunday last and in a short time the creeks were running very high. Fortunately no damage but a few small slips was done to the roads in the locality.

Th e Colville football team proceeded to Coromandel on Saturday, May 21, and played a match against the Wanderers. Colville won the*da-y by scoring 21 points to Wanderers’ 6. The "monthly card : ' party was held In the' Memorial Hall on Saturday, May 21, under the direction of the W.D.F.U. Mr H. S. Curtis controlled the games, the first prize being won by Mrs Dunne (ladies), and Mr Cecil Jackson (gents). The second prizes were won by Miss F. Strongman (ladies) and Mr E. Bridle (gents). After the conclusion of the card games a dainty supper 'was provided by the ladies and dancing continued until 12 p.m. Mr Cecil Jackson ably officiated as M.C. and excellent music was provided by Mr E. Bridle, old and young participating in the fun. Suppliers’ Meeting. The annual meeting of the suppliers of the New Zealand Dairy Co was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Coromandel, on Thursday, May 26, representatives from the Colville and Amodeo Bay districts being present. Messrs Davey and Roberts, of the Company’s staff, and Messrs Hale and Buchanan, directors of the Company, were on the platform. Mr Davey addressed the meeting at considerable length and dealt with the operations of the Company during the past season. It was agreed by all present that the overland transport of cream to Ngatea factory, in place of the steamer service to Auckland, had proved a great success. At the conclusion of Mr Davey’s address many questions were asked and prompt and satisfactoi*y replies were given to all. The election of committee, for the forthcoming year was then proceeded with. It was resolved that Messrs J. H. Reddy, W. C. Goudie, H. C. Jacks and A. O. Evans be re-elected for Colville, Mr W. C. Goudie being unanimously re-elected as convenor. It was resolved that the old Amodeo Bay committee be re-elected and Mr George Davies was elected as convenor for that district. Messrs H. Campbell, J. Gamble, A. McNeil, G. Mannion and S. Allen were elected to represent Coromandel, with Mr G. Mannion as convenor.

Mr G. Darling paid a tribute to Mr Truelove, the lo,cal “dump” manager, for the satisfactory way in which he had conducted his work in their interest throughout the season. Mr Reddy also expressed his appreciation of Mr Truelove’s work.

Mr W. G. Goudie, of Colville, proposed that the next annual meeting be held at 11 a.m.' to enable outsiders to attend.

In conclusion Messrs Buchanan and Hale said that in view of the success of the method of transporting the dream, they Hoped to run a daily service from Coromandel next year. Social News. Mr Mellsop, accompanied by his wife, returned to Colville on Sunday last, after attending a conference of the Farmers’ Union at Wellington.
