OBITUARY.
MR. G. C. S. CARTER. An old colonist, Mr George Charles Smith Carter, died at Te Aroha on August 18, aged 90 years. He was born at Wandsworth, Surrey, England, and went to Nelson in 1864. From there he walked to Marlborough, and later was in business in Picton and Blenheim, where he took a keen interest in musical activities. About 20 years ago he came north, and he was well-iknown at Rotorus* Te Aroha and Thames. He spent some time on the goldgelds at ( the latter places. Mr Carter is survived by the following children: Messrs G. Carter and W. Carter, Rotoroaj A. Carter, South Africa; H. Carter, Auckland; E. Carter, Eltham; Mrs F. W. Dodson, Blenheim; and Mrs N. Tibbs, Te Aroha. Mrs Carter died ten years ago. There are 35 grandchildren and four great-grand-children.
