MORSE WEATHER REPORT.
TO BE DISCONTINUED.
FOR ECONOMY REASONS.
(By- Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 3.
It has been the custom for the Meteorological Department to send out by Morse code a weather report at ft p.m., but for reasons of'economy the practice is being discontinued. This is complained of by mariners, who say it will be much missed. It is true that it is radioed out by speech stations, but ships may not be able to pick this up.
The value of the Morse message is emphasised as against the very small saving its discontinuance. can possibly effect, and one master mariner places in contrast the value to the Meterological Department of weather messages sent free by ships themselves.
