TURUA. STie combined Turua and Kerepeehi Church of England Bible Class students held a most enjoyable social evening in the Turua Buildings on Friday last. The young people kept things going at top speed, not one moment being dull. Mr. Monteith directed the arrangements in a tnp.ible manner, • stressing the fact that it was unfair to the musicians to expect them to play fcr five minutes before anybody "took the floor. Mr. Monteith soon had everyone rushing around immediately, dances were announced, iind consequently more liveliness was apparent. Charades were produced by the Turua members to. the delight of all. The *yiniy?r of the competition was Miss 1. McCormack. A dainty supper was provided by the girl members. Music was provided by Misses Beryl Sutton, Bessie Collins, and I. < ' McCormack. ft was decided to hold tlie next social at Kerepeehi. Mr. Sam Stephens; of ' Manwaru, has just returned from a holiday at Pahnerston North, and is spending a few days with his parents.at Turua. Mr. Stephens leaves for North Auckland on Friday. The local men's hockey team have put themselves on. the map by playing a drawn game with Kopuarahi last Saturday. The weather last week was very rough and boisterous and heavy ram. set in on Friday evening, and by Saturday morning all the low land was flooded. Saturday morning broke beautifully clear and a fine day followed. The roads in the district suffered from last week's storm. Many slips have occurred on the Tairua-Whenua-kite Road' arid repairs are to be taken in hand immediately by the Publus * Works Department. Mr. Thomas Foley an old time bush contractor of this locality it at present' visiting relatives here and is renewing many old acquaintances. A fine line*of springing Jersey heifers was removed from Mr. John r Kemp's farm this week' and taken to Hikuta'ia for the sale next week. The heifers were in the charge of Messrs. John and Leslie Hamilton, who report having delivered them in good condition. , Mr. W. A. Haihiltoii, of Dalmeny Park, has just had a four-cow milking plant installed in his shed. This is the second of this type that has been installed about here, the other being •owned by Mr. O. Pye, of Hot Water . iteach, • - The wild pig menace still continues despite the slaughter that*is done bv ' the various pig-hunting parties. -One local farmer has thr.s week killed no less than 13 grown pigs on his holding. Roads. Mr Penlington, officer in charge of the Public Works road construction in this district, made a tour of inspection over the Hikuai-Corqglen Road last week, giving instructions, etc., to the maintenance men. The grading of the approach to Stony Creek is receiving attention, and a great improvement is assured. A portion of road surface in this locality is also to receive a coating of creek gravel. i , Football. Last Saturday afternoon a football match was played at Bush Park, Whenuakite, between the United and the Whitianga teams for the final round of the Bryce Cup. Owing to the Hooded state of all the roads and creeks, many of the players had an exciting time before reaching the ground,-, some tot the riders having to swim the; flooded Both teams kicked off with their full quota. At half-time the scere was United 3, Whitianga 0. On resuming, a - good hard game continued, both sides 5 displaying great deternuna*ion and at the final sound of the whistle the game ended with a score ot six 31 Tries were scored for United by Bernard Hamilton and Bert Hamilton and for Whitianga Edgar Brunton a„d William White.
