ROUGH WEATHER.
STEAMER KNOCKED ABOUT. A HOLD FLOODED. (From Our Correspondent.) AUCKLAND. Dec. 22. The Northern Steamship Company's steamer Rimu had a very stormy passage after leaving Onehunga for Raglan and Kawhia on Monday. After crossing the Manukau bar the vessel encountered terrific seas, which completely submerged her from stem to stern. The deck cargo was washed overboard ancl considerable havoc was caused in tho forward hold owing to the deck' beams being smashed, allowing the water to penetrate below, and when she reached Kawhia she had 4ft of water in th e hold. The cargo in tho hold was either damaged or ruined. Although the pumps were kept going day T and night it was only' yesterday morning - that the hold was clear of water. Beside* damaging the cargo the seas, whiefc. swept the vessel, reached tho bridge deck, tore the doors of ttu? companion-way off their hinges and flooded the saloon, doing consider able damage itiere.
