A few weeks ago the Methodists in Auck. land, and indeed throughout the colony, were thrown into a state of ferment and unrest over the attempt on the part of a few prominent ministers and their friends to push hurriedly a Bill through the New Zealand Parliament to legalise the stay of a minister in a circuit for any number of years, or possibly for life. A well-devised opposition was immediately planned, and at a great cost the measure was practically killed, and resulted in a complete victory for the laity. The ten members of the Auckland Committee representing the opposition have now published the whole correspondence and press leaders, together with tbe debates in both Houses of Parliament, in a demy quarto volume of about 50 pages adorned with a real salvation cover. It is handsomely illustrated, and printed on fine calendar paper. The photo engravings number 15, and comprise: The Eevs. Jno. Wesley, W. Morley, Joseph Berry, W. Lee, H. Bull, J. J. Lewis, W. J. Williams, JL P. Hughes, Alexander Reid, John Warren, Thomas Buddie, John Hobbs, James Buller, James Wallis, and J. Whitley. The book is published at almost coat price, and may now be had at the booksellers, or from Mr E. Honiss.

In commenting upon an application to release from the Insolvency Court in Melbourne the estate of a' debtor who3e creditors had agreed to accept a composition of id in the £, Judge Moleaworth remarked that he believed that the morality of the Insolvency Court was in some respecta worse than that of the racecourse.
