It will be recollected that wbeu the Hon. E. J. Seddon was at the Thames a deputation waited upon him from the Thames Miners' Union* and urged that the Stamp Act should not be applicable in the case of tributera' agreements. The representations of the deputation hare bean given effect to, as section 15 of the new Mining Act passed last session provides as follows *—*! "dr'agreement to work as a contractor o tributer in any claim, special claim, or licenllcl holding should ba made or have -been made by deed ;. and any agreement between the parties to any snch contract or agreement as aforesaid shall bn and shall be deemed to hare been sufficient for el] purposes of the principal Act if made in writing and signed by the parties thereto. Any Euoh contract or agreement as aforesaid heretofore rxade shall be receivable in evidence notwithstanding the insufficiency of stamp duty paid in respect thereof."
