PROPOSED MAORI MEETING.
There was no meeting held today, contrary to conjecture. Sir Itonald McLean would appear to hare arrived here too soon, the surrey' lines igot being completed, and until that the negociations, or I should rather lay the final arrangement cannot be effected. Mr James Mackay, whose indefatigable •arnestnesf and endurance are truly wonderful, proceeded on horseback to the boundary line this morning, and has bean actively engaged since his arriral thence. It is undecided yet whether the wrrey will be completed this evening, though the work is being pushed ahead with all possible dispatch. At Rotakahu, a good distance beyond the gorge, there is some very heavy country to cut through, and this Snakes progress the slower. Should the line be completed to-day, a meeting with the natives will in all probability be held to-morrow.
