YESTERDAY'S MEETING OF MINERS.

The meeting last night did not result in the object which was sought to be at* tamed; indeed, it did not result in anything save rowdyism. The meeting wai largely attended by the miners, a minority of whom, forming a little' ring of persons who it. is said smelt a political more, made such foroible demonstrations of disapproval of the proceedings that for the sake of peace and quietness the majority abandoned their intentions of having put to the test the following resolutions prepared previously:—L That the Ohinemuri goldfield be opened under the system of land being taken up under miners' rights; 2. That no mining leases be granted until the goldfield has been thoroughly prospected; 3. That considering the probability of serious comSlications arising with the Natives, it is eemed advisable for the safety and wellbeing of the district, that the administration of the, Ohinemuri goldfield be retained for a time by the General Government. Jthad been determined, if the circumstances of the meeting had been ordinarily favorable,, to pass a resolution embodying the. foregoing- in a memorial to the General Government;, but as stated, the circumstances were ifot by any means favorable, and there was a regular hullaballoo on Mr Hogg making an attempt, in the ordinary course, to explain the object for, which it had been called. They would not admit of a chairman being elected, and eventually the police requested the promoters ; tc^ abandon the idea of carrying the meeting through, as a sacrifice to peace and order. .Noon.
