GOLDFIELDS REGULATIONS.
Captain Fraser, J£r Allom and l£r J. E. Macdonald came up in the Luna together, in order that no delay, might occur in completing the new goldfields regulations, and hare been engaged busily on this work since their arrival. I am led to understand from pretty reliable authority, that it is proposed to submit the following regulations to the Superintendent :—That the area of ground for quartz mines is to be 15,000 square feet for one man's ground; shallow alluvial 50 z 50; frifrWiji -* alluvial, ?I-^^lhe^g£gfia%aroa proposed to be allowed in the respective classes of claims will be as follows :— Class I.—Shallow alluvial, when depth, of sinking does not exceed fifty feet: Four mln's ground or 10,000 square feet. , . Class 2—'Quartz Claims: Ten men's ground or 150,000 square feet. Class 3.—Deep alluvial: Six men's ground or 216,000 square feet. The principle of the Goldmining Districts Act is adopted with regard to the pegging out—viz., a peg at every angle, instead of the old centre peg and 150 feet on each side of a supposed line of reef. A claim of either class may be of any form, but the length must not exceed twice the breadth. . Amalgamation may be effected to the extent of four times the largest area in each class.
