DISTRICT CUB CAMP

First Of Its Kind In South Canterbury SUCCESSFUL GATHERING AT RAINCLIFF The first District Cub damp held in South Canterbury, at Raincliff, will close to-day. The five-day camp, conducted under ideal weather conditions and splendid surroundings at Raincliff, for the senior cubs of the Scout Movement, allowed boys from the followingpacks to attend —Ngaitahu, Highfield, Northdown-Te Rangi, St. Peter’s, Waimate and Pleasant Point, also a Lone Cub from Gore. The cubs were in the control of 10 Cubmasters, with two camp’ mothers in charge of all cooking arrangements. Mrs Allington, assistant county secretary for Canterbury, was camp chief. The Quartermaster, Mr Len Marshall, assisted by a patrol of senior Scouts, attended to the provisioning and routine work of the camp. Visitors from Timaru attended a camp fire and presented greetings from Sir Joseph Ward, County Commissioner for Canterbury. Greetings were also received from the Dominion Akela Leader, Miss Nancy Wilson. On Thursday, a nature hike into the bush was undertaken, the main feature of the day being a picnic and a ramble with Major P. H. Johnson of Raincliff who delighted everyone with a history of the various trees. During the final camp fire, the cubs presented a special programme of songs, sketches and jungle games and an investiture of a Christchurch Scouter was held.

Boys from the St. Saviour’s Home, under Mr Razell Wood, will spend their vacation from to-day at the camp.
