NATIONAL WAR SAVINGS
nvestments Sustained Over
The Holidays
Notwithstanding the holiday season, a period over which the majority of people are generally more inclined to spend than to save, the investments in War Savings in Timaru have been well above the average, said the District Organiser (Mr R. S. Wheeler) yesterday. “For the week ended on Christmas Eve, the investments totalled £3307/13/-, the best week’s total since the closing of the Third Liberty Loan.
“At the close of business for the week ended December 31 the investments reached £1036/11/-, only £9/9/short of the weekly quota of £1046. So far this week £706/15/- has been invested.
“With a surplus carry over of £4347,” Mr Wheeler concluded “it is gratifying to observe that spending during the holiday period has been restrained and many workers who received bonuses for good work performed over the last 12 months have invested a portion of that amount until such time as the goods they require are available or at a price more suitable to their ideas of value.”
