POSTAGE RATES

NEW ZEALAND FORCES IN PACIFIC

(N.Z.P.A.I WELLINGTON. Jan. 11 The Postmaster-General (Hon. P c Webb) to-day stated that there appears to be a doubt as to the correct rate of postage to be paid on letters addressed to New' Zealand Forces stationed in the Pacific.

“Some people appear to be under the impression that by paying a special rate letters will be forwarded by air mail," said Mr Webb. “Actually there is only one rate, a surface rate of twopence for the first ounce and one penny for each additional half-ounce. Whenever it is possible to do so as much mail as possible is dispatched bv air, but as no guarantee of air dispatch can be given, the ordinary surface rate of postage is applied.
