HONOUR FOR NURSE

Mentioned In Dispatches In recent dispatches, mention was made of a well-known Palmerston North nurse, Sister Gerda Smidt, who who is the fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs W. T. Smidt. Palmerston North has reason to be proud of its representatives serving with the Forces, many of whom have distinguished themselves for bravery and devotion to duty. Miss Smidt was born in Palmerston North and received her nursing training at the Palmerston North Hospital after, which she took private. patients and later nursed ih Sydney, whence she returned to New Zealand at the outbreak of war for the purpose of joining the Army Nursing Service. Miss Smidt left New Zealand in January, 1941, for the Middle East, going to a New Zealand General Hospital and, as far as her parents know, she is still stationed there.
