FAMOUS HERD LOST

Foot And Mouth Disease

(Rec. 11.15) LONDON, Jan. 4. The famous Aldie Ross-shire herd of Shorthorn cattle, which formed the nucleus of many fine herds throughout the world, was slaughtered and burned following an outbreak of foot and mouth disease. Ninety pedigree bulls, 18 pedigree cows and 384 sheep were destroyed. The Aldie herd is conservatively estimated to be worth £lOO,OOO, though actually the herd is a priceless one. An Aldie bull brought £1675 at the Perth Shorthorn sales.
