RADIOS RETURNED

Somaliland Residents

LONDON, January 3.

One of the first acts of the new Governor of French Somaliland <M. Bayardelle) was to return to the population the radios which the Vichy authorities had confiscated.

The Djibouti correspondent of the British United Press reports that M. Bayardelle released those taken into custody for Fighting French sympathies and arrested 35 Italian members of the Armistice Commission. Generals Platt and Legentilholme 'the French National Commissioner of War) and M. Bayardelle attended a parade of troops at Djibouti celebrating the freedom of the colony. General Legentilholme, addressing the population, declared: “You have been in the dark about what has been going on. Now you are free to have your own opinions. No pressure will be applied. You can read any foreign newspaper you like and listen to any radio station you please.”
