Committees Elected
In his report to the annual meeting of the householders on Monday evening, Mr W H. Kirk, chairman of the Geraldine District High School Committee, said that although a few changes in the school staff had taken place during the year, including the transfer of the headmaster <Mr J. J. McGuigan) the head of the secondary department (Mr A. K. Easterbrook) and the infant mistress (Miss Tempro) the school had achieved much success in examinations. Five candidates out of six had passed their matriculation and 10 pupils out of 12 their Public Service Entrance Examination, in which one pupil had been placed thirty-second and another fifty-first for New Zealand.
Mr Kirk paid a tribute to the new headmaster (Mr B. F. Hayman) and the staff, who, in spite of the changes, had picked up the threads and continued the work with much success. He thanked the parents for their cooperation, the staff, caretakers and the committee for their assistance during their period In office. Reference was made to the 13 years’ membership of Mr E. P. S. Bennett, a retiring member who was also thanked for his services as honorary treasurer over that period. Thanks were extended to Mr A. J. Burmester who also retired from the committee.

The nomination of Mr R. Pye as a member for the committee was forwarded to the board. Country School Committees Committees elected for the various country schools were as follows: Peel Forest: Mr W. H. O. Keen (chairman), Mrs E. K. Inglis (secretary) and Messrs P. A. Thomson, C. T. Wooding, A. J. Blogg. Rangitata: Mr G. E. Edgar (chairman) Messrs D. Susrue, M. Murphy. C. H. Moss, W. G. Marshall. Hilton: Mr R. L. W. Beattie (chairman) Mr J. M. Little (secretary) Messrs P. Meredith, V. Goodwin. M. Brosnahan. Woodbury: Mr A. McKenzie (chairman) Messrs S. C. Chisnail (secretary) D. Bates, M. L. Wooding, G. Cain. Orari: Mr P. Hobbs (chairman) Messrs C. Stevens (secretary) W. O. Smith, A. Henderson. Rangitata Island: Mr R. Brodie (chairman) Messrs B. H. Watts, F. H. Ruddenklau, R. G. Hay, A. Blair. Orari Bridge: Mr H. Coulter (chairman) Messrs P. G. Scott (secretary) W. South, L. A. Coulter, T. Markham. NEW LIBRARY OFFICES New books issued during the year totalled 356, stated the report of the Geraldine Library Management Committee presented to the annual meeting on Monday evening. There were now 140 subscribers and a juvenile section had now been opened. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr H. A. Robertson; secretary, Miss I. Henry; treasurer, Mr N. McGregor; committee. Mesdames O’Connor, F. W. Grayburn, F. W. Morgan. A. J. Burmester and N. Mitchell, Misses B. McGregor, I. Henry and Messrs D. C. Williamson, G. Brown and G. B. Couch. SOLDIER RETURNS HOME Private P. Williamson, who has recently been invalided home from Fiji, was met at the Orari Railway Station yesterday by Miss E. Templer, representing the Geraldine County Red Cross and Mr P. G. Withers, representing the Geraldine-Temuka Patriotic Zone Committee. He was welcomed home and brought to Geraldine.
