HOSPITAL BOARD
COMMITTEE REPORTS The monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Hospital Board was held yesterday. Present —Mr E. Macdonald (chairman), Mrs B. Hewson, Messrs C. B. Marshall, C. Ley, H. J. Clark, C, M. Talbot, C. E. Kerr, J. Dempsey, J. Acland, M.P., J. C. Hay and Major G. T. Hennessy. Social Service The Social Service Committee reported as follows, the figures in brackets being for the corresponding period last year—New cases: Four (10) new applications for assistance were dealt with by the committee. Three were granted and one had been held over for further inquiry. Temporary cases: Nine (21) applications for further assistance were granted. The total value of orders to 43 (64) cases for the whole district was £l3O/0/7 as against £159/12/9 in March of last year. The report was adopted. Finance Committee The Finance Committee reported as follows: Walpiata Sanatorium: Advice had been received that the rate of maintenance per patient would be 4/6 per day for 1942-43; the same as last year. “The Pines’ property, College Road: This had been offered to the board by the Commissioner of Crown Lands for the sum of £l5OO. Recommendation: That no action be taken. Claim by Waimate County Council for Emergency Precautions Service expenditure. Recommendation: That the secretary be asked to explajn to the Waimate County Council the position regarding hospital supplies for E.P.S. service and subsidies thereon. Arbitration Court Order for wage increase: Recommendation: That the increase apply to all award workers and to all members of the nursing staff. The report was adopted.
