GOLF GLENITI CLUB

Satisfactory Year Annual Report A fairly satisfactory year financially, in spite of the loss of members for war service, is recorded in the report to be presented to the annual meeting of the Gleniti Golf Club. “Eighty-three members were on the register at the commencement of the season, but on account of the war we lost the services of many to the Army and the Air Force,” the report stated. “We sincerely hope that these members will all be back with us soon, fit and well, with the shadows of war gone, and the world a better place to live in for all. Several members have moved from the district—to them we also extend best wishes for success and a genuine welcome back to our club should at any time opportunity occur. Total resignations including the foregoing were 29. but new members numbering 19 brought the register up to 102. While members enjoyed golf they also did yeoman service in many ways to further the war effort and it is hoped that no resignations will be received through the mistaken idea that golf will interfere with these services. Small Loss on Year “We commenced the year with a debit balance of £35/12/1. With a further loss of members expected, the club was set a pretty difficult task, and we consider that the present financial position, showing a loss on the year’s working of £2/12/3 together with minor improvements to course and plant, fairly satisfactory. This has been brought about by donations and working bees, but more particularly to our farming activities, and in this connection we are fortunate and grateful for all the expert knowledge of members and Government officials placed at our disposal. A paper loss could have been avoided had an allowance been made for the crop just harvested, but this would have been anticipating an amount that was doubtful at January 31. “Again we have pleasure in recording continued Improvement in these, and in this connection our thanks are due to Mr Geo. Simpson who continues to be a very valued servant of the club. Matches and Competitions Our tournament was again a success as were also the various friendly games against the other clubs. These of course were less than usual through petrol restrictions, etc. Our club was again successful in winning the Bristol Cup and we still have an interest in the Bowe Cup through the prowess of .one of our lady members, Miss M. Scales, now on the staff at Wigram. Trophies have been further increased by donations, and our thanks are due to Mr N. Gray, now’ of the Air Force, for a valuable trophy. The social side was not lost sight of and this resulted in closer contact of members as well as enabling us to make substantial donations to various patriotic efforts, and thanks are again extended to members who made these possible, particularly the Social Committee. Tire report concludes by thanking the officers and members of the club and all others who had contributed to the success of the year.
