BASKETBALL
SOUTH CANTERBURY BEATS NORTH OTAGO
Owing to the inclemency of the weather the representative basketball match between North Otago and South Canterbury was played in the Boys’ High School gymnasium. South Canterbury opened the score from a fast passing movement from the centre and within five minutes had scored four goals. North Otago by this time were settling down better. The South Canterbury forwards played most attractive basketball, the North Otago defence not being able to check the passing. Half time was called with the score 16-5 in favour of South Canterbury.
In the second spell North Otago opened their game up and met with more success. Their forwards shot most consistently, very few shots at goal missing. The South Canterbury defences were playing a spoiling game and time and time again they intercepted the ball travelling through to the South Canterbury goal. The final score 22-13 in favour of South Canterbury was a good indication of the game. Mrs M. Best was the referee.
