FAIRLIE COLD WEATHER
LIGHT SNOW ON HILLS Cold weather with hail, rain and snow down to low levels has been experienced in the Fairlie district this week. Coming at this time of the year it is most unwelcome because of its effect on lambs and shorn sheep. After the dry winter, rain was needed for pastures and crops but in most places the most urgent need at present is warm sunshine. The season so far has been satisfactory and growth has been rapid. Summer sporting activities have not yet made much progress because of the cold winds experienced in the last month. Little enthusiasm has been shown for tennis or bowls, but the latter will probably occupy more attention after this week. The Swimming Club winch has been in recess since . c 1938-39 season, has given no indication that it will resume activities a year Attendances at the Amateur Athletic Club’s meetings have been affected by the cold weather.
