CENTENNIAL PARK

FIREBREAKS CONSTRUCTED “The most important work at Centennial Park during the period under review was the formation of two firebreaks in the pine forest at the Gleniti eild of the reserve, wrote Mr A. W. Anderson, curator of reserves, in his report to the Timaru Borough Council last night. “These firebreaks are one and a half chains in width,” continued Mr Anderson, “and as they lie between the railway and the creek, it is hoped that they will tend to assist hi the control of any outbreak of fire which may occur. “A flight of stone steps was constructed so as to form better access to the Mathers Springs. It is hoped that we may be able to improve the surroundings of the spring in accordance with a design prepared by Cr. H. J. Mathers, but so far the work has been held up on account of our inability to secure the service of a man skilled in stone work.
