TRAFFIC SIGNS
Helf) Appreciated COMMENT BY TRAFFIC INSPECTOR “The 29 School Signs erected near schools in the borough had become dilapidated and required renewing,” said the Traffic Inspector. Mr C. H. Newcome, in his report to the Timaru Borough Council last night. “The Automobile Association (South Canterbury) has taken the 29 old signs down and erected new ones in their place free of cost. "Three traffic signs have been erected in the Centennial Reserve indicating to motorists that a portion of the road is for ’dry weather’ use only, and to change down to low gear before negotiating two steep Inclines. The signs have also been supplied free of cost by the Automobile Association. “I appreciate the co-operation given by the Association with the Traffic Department in the endeavour to make traffic safer, on the roads in the borough,” concluded Mr Newcome. On the recommendation of the Works Committee the Council instructed the Town Clerk Mr E. A. Killick) to write thanking the Automobile Association for its assistance. Mr Newcome was requested to report on the estimated cost of renovating the signs at the borough boundaries.
