I Annual Prize-Givings Winchester I The break-up of the Winchester School took place on Friday. There was a large attendance of parents, | friends and ex-pupils. Mr B. Trumper, chairman of the School committee, paid a tribute to the | parents and to the staff. Monro. A. N. K. Baxter and R. K. Heard (Nelson College). PLEASANT VALLEY The Pleasant Valley School breakup, which took the form of a picnic, was held in the Woodbury Domain. The day was ideal for such a function, and the children enjoyed cricket, swimming and other games. A sports programme was also held for children and adults. Competitions were won by Mr N. Gale. Mrs T. Robinson, Mrs F. R. Wilks and Mr W. Leary. Mr H. Bailey, chairman of the school committee, referred to the pending departure of Mr Wilks and expressed appreciation of his work. He had been instrumental in having great improvements made in the school grounds and house. He had worked in harmony with the committee and everything had run smoothly; Each child received a prize as flollows: Form II: Charles Shields and Maurice Walker, who also received school leaving certificates. Mr Edgar, chairman of the School Committee, mentioned that a great deal of praise was due to the staff for the high standard of work attained. Reviewing what had been a very busy and interesting year. Mr Ward (the headmaster) said he was grateful to Miss Seyb (his assistant) for the loyal and sincere work she had done and to the many parents and friends who had given prizes. He expressed his appreciation to Mrs Ward for her assistance throughout the year, especially during the staging of the concert programme, the committee, who had show/i a very lively interest and help in the school, and finally the judges, who in many cases had a difficult task in awarding the prizes.
