MAGNATE’S ADVICE TO AMERICA
Confident Of Allied Victory Duited Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 16, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, November 15. Expressing confidence in an Allied victory, Mr Thomas Lamont, a partner in J. P. Morgan and Company, told the Academy of Political Science that the United States should keep out of the war, encourage the sales of war supplies to Britain and France, and strengthen her own economic and financial resources in order to help make permanent peace.
Mr Lamont added that American economic participation was needed to establish the economic union of Western Europe with a free trade area equal to the United States. He called on American business and labour to settle their differences and agree to reduced tariffs in order to make possible an economic United States of Europe with an immense stabilising effect on the world.
