A BUSY DUCHESS
DEPUTISING FOR THE QUEEN While the Queen is away from Eng- I land, the Duchess of Gloucester will i deputise for her at a great many func- | tions. Ascot will see her with the j Duke of Gloucester entertaining in the Royal box. There will not be the cus- I tomary carriage procession from | Windsor Castle when the meeting I opens on June 13, but on each of the three days the Duke and Duchess will be present with a party, to give that Royal touch to Ascot without which much of the meeting’s traditional I charm would be lost. The Duchess will also attend the l private view of the Chelsea Flower | Show next week, instead of the King I and Queen. On Derby Day, May 24. | she goes to Epsom with the Duke. Next I day she will be at Skegness, opening an i extension to the Cottage Hospital. | June brings a crowd of debutante ! parties, charity balls, film premieres, 1 agricultural shows, regimental and Empire society dinners, luncheons, and I concerts. On June 1 she will accom- I pany her husband to a brilliant ball | at the Mansion House, in aid of the | Lord Mayor’s Fund for the rebuilding of Bart’s. The Duke will take the Salute for the King at Trooping the > Colouf on the King’s official birthday, ! June 8. On June 17, day after Ascot | ends, they will see the opening of the 1 Aidershot Tattoo, after dining with ' General Sir John Dill at Government I House. On June 20, they will be at the International Horse Show at Olympia.
