HOUSEHOLD HINTS
If nuts are warmed in the oven, they will leave the shells quite easily. When you are crowded for room in your refrigerator, use cardboard plates
instead of china ones. These can be
bent to make more space, and are quite cheap to buy. Summer curtains should be rolled around a sheet of newspaper when stored for the winter. There will be no splitting at the folds, and the method is a safeguard against moths. If you must iron on a polished table, be very careful. It is advisable not to rely on the ironing blanket. A piece of American cloth under the blanket will save heart-burning and table-scorching.
Artificial flowers that have become soiled can be cleaned by placing them over the steam from a kettle. Shake them gently in the steam, taking care not to get them wet, and then place in a cool spot to dry. You will find that they will be quite fresh and newlooking once more. When cleaning grates, smear dry soap over your hands before you start. You will find that the dirt will come off very easily after the job is over, and it will not get forced down into the pores. If the grate is rusty, rub it over with a cut, raw onion, and the rust will disappear. Then put the blacklead on immediately.
