ELECTRICAL STORM

HAIL DAMAGES GARDENS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, January 10. Early this morning Paraparaumu was visited by a thunderstorm. The lightning and thunder were vivid and loud and the rain heavy. For several minutes there was an exceptional fall of hail, the hailstones being described as big as walnuts. The damage done to gardens was extensive. The full force of the storm was felt at Waikanae Beach. At times the lightning was flashing in three directions and the continuous roar of thunder was like a heavy artillery bombardment. A noise similar to waves breaking on the beach was heard to be coming nearer and nearer. This was the approach of the hailstorm, the stones of which were about the size of bantams’ eggs. Campers under canvas had a most unenviable experience.
