THIRD GRADERS ARE KEEN

MATCH AGAINST ASHBURTON A Soqth Canterbury representative third grade team may travel to Ashburton on August 7 to play a similar team from the northern Union. The possibility of arranging the fixture is to be inquired into by a committee appointed by the Management Committee of the Rugby Union last night. J. H. Harley (chairman), S. H. Sullivan, D. Hepburn, M. J. Angland, J. Lewis, C. L. Cutler, A. Grant, A. B. Rowlands, A. S. Aitken, A. B. Herdman and D. M. Webster.

The Ashburton Union wrote inquiring the prospects of arranging the match at Ashburton on August 7, the date on which the two provinces play senior and junior representative fixtures at Timaru. Ashburton said they were not in a position to meet the expense of sending the team to Timaru. “I don’t know that we are either,” remarked the chairman.

Mr Grant said the third grade players were very keen for the match, and were prepared to pay up to half of the cost of the trip. Mr Rowlands objected to the date of the fixture as it would cut into the third grade competition, which was at an interesting stage. A committee was set up to investigate the prospects of arranging the fixture.
