CONFORMING TO STRICT RULES

Seventy women, aged 20 to 70, representating Britain’s 10,000 women bowlers, contested the Anglo-Scottish-Welsh international at Glasgow, in which they conformed with the rules prohibiting smoking on the green, playing bareheaded, and Insisting that dresses must be reasonably long, shadow proof, and not silk. Players must kneel when measuring the woods in order to avoid an unseemly disturbance of the skirts.
