A former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, the Very Rev. T. M. Johnstone, was fined £lOO for contempt of court. During a speech at the General Assembly at Belfast he criticised the King’s Bench for granting a new license. Mr Johnstone was ordered to be detained in gaol till he paid. He was told he could not appeal. He will be permitted to attend the ordination of his son on July 7, after which he will surrender to gaol. The clergyman tried to address the Court, which broke up in disorder.
