PRESIDENT SATISFIED

INTEREST BEING MAINTAINED Satisfaction with the interest which had so far been manifested in the Show and the manner in which the attendances had been maintained W'as expressed by the president (Mr G. H. Andrews) at a meeting of the Executive of the Association last night. Present: Messrs M. H. Richards, A. B. Struthers, C. W. Wood. W. M. Sexton, B. L. Blodorn, C. E. Kerr, H. L. Warsaw, H. W. Lomas. P W. Young, M. B. Richards, A. M. Parker and E. H. Marriner (organiser). Mr Andrews said that during the week visits had been paid by members of the Otago Winter Show Association, New Zealand Industries Fair (Christchurch) and Walmate Winter Show, and all had expressed surprise at the size of the exhibition and the standard which had been attained. A request had been received from the Curator of Reserves (Mr A. W. Anderson) for the tree ferns which were being used to decorate the avenues, and he thought that at the conclusion of the show they should be handed over to him. Lecturers' Difficulties The difficulties under which speakers had to deliver lectures were mentioned by Mr M. B. Richards, who said that yesterday one speaker had not been heard by many of those interested because the location was not suitable for addressing people. Mr Struthers said the necessity for a separate lecture room was apparent for next year’s exhibition. Not only was the site unsuitable, but the speakers had to contend with loud speakers, radios, gramophones and other musical instruments, which were being demonstrated at the same time. Other speakers pointed out the difficulty which would arise if an exhibitor had to stop demonstrating an instrument when there was a possibility of making a sale just because a lecture was being given. It was agreed that too much volume was created by broadcasting the orchestra. Mr Sexton suggested that a small dance floor should be made near the stage so that young people, who came to the show only for amusement, could enjoy themselves. It was decided that in erecting stands in the agriculture section a space be left in the centre to enable demonstrators to move up and down among the exhibits while speaking.
