GERALDINE
WATER FOR DOMAIN f BATHS PURE SUPPLY ARRANGED Metnbers of the Pure Water Supply Committee of the Geraldine Swimming Club will shortly realise their hopes of a pure water supply for the baths at the Geraldine Domain. In the past the water for the baths has run down an open channel through the town, and for some years it has been felt by residents of both town and district that that state of affairs should not be allowed to continue.
At the annual meeting of the Club last November it was reported that the Club then had a sum of £BO set aside towards the cost of piping the water from near the borough pumping shed to the baths. A special sub-committee was appointed to launch a campaign to raise funds for the piping and installation which it is estimated will cost £282/14/6. The Geraldine County Council gave a good lead in contributing £llO from the Hobson Trust fund (to be spread over a number of years), in addition to an earlier grant, and the Geraldine Borough Council showed its willingness to assist by granting permission for the borough foreman (Mr G. E. Berry) to supervise the work of laying the pipe line. The public, both in Geraldine and throughout the district, responded most generously to the appeal for funds, and early this year the committee felt that they had sufficient in hand and in sight to warrant proceeding with the scheme. With a view to reducing the overdraft, which will be necessary, a further drive for funds will be commenced at an early date. Tire excavating for the pipe line will be commenced next Monday. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs Theo. Williams, who have been the guests of Mrs Morris Williams, Raukapuka, have returned to Christchurch. Mr E. L. M.
