The Victoria Racing Club’s autumn meeting was concluded yesterday at Flemington. The weather was threatening, but there was a fair attendance. The going was holding. Beechwood made amends for his recent failure by a narrow win In the Leonard Stakes. Namakia was never dangerous. Pamelus finished brilliantly to beat the pacemaker Gold Rod in the L’oyd Stakes. Pamelus has now had two wins and four seconds in his last six starts. He will be a probable visitor to Randwick at Easter. Young Idea was a moderate third. Gay Blonde was outclassed. ■ Bonnie Rollox in his first start for Mr R. J. Murphy lost his rider at the third fence in the Autumn Steeplechase, which was won comfortably by Seven Hills. Elegance Bhoy and Blackmail fell. An extreme outsider, Mutable, gamed a surprise win In the Australian Cup. He has a consistent record this season, but the distance was considered beyond him. He finished brilliantly to down Pooley Bridge in the last few strides. Demotic j’ust beat Hot Shot for place honours. Cuddle weakened as also did Amalia and Royal Messenger. The winner’s owner and trainer is W. Smart, formerly a well-known jockey,. The time was only half a second outside the record.

The consistent Le Baron led always in the Gibson Carmichael Stakes. He has had four wins and a second in his last seven starts.
