CROQUET

GOLD MEDAL COMPETITION The Gold Medal competition was continued on Saturday in fine weather, with a strong north-west wind. The winner proved to be J. Tannock, Dunedin, who only lost one game throughout the tournament, and that owing to his absence. The runner-up was W. H. Kirk. The president of the South Canterbury Croquet Association, in the absence of the New Zealand Council representative, congratulated Mr Tannock warmly on his wonderful performance, and his excellent play throughout. The manager (Mrs D. McLennan) endorsed his remarks, and the players joined in giving Mr Tannock a hearty send-off. Late on Friday afternoon Mr R. McCreath (Gore), president of the New Zealand Croquet Council, presented the Dominion Level Singles Cup to R. Waterhouse, of the Aorangi Croquet Club, who had won it at the recently concluded Dominion tournament in Christchurch.
