LABOUR VICTORY
TRAMWAY BOARD ELECTIONS By Telegraph—'Tess Association CHRISTCHURCH, November 26. Labour had an almost complete victory in the elections to-day for the Christchurch Tramway Board. There are nine seats on the Board. One member for one of the three suburban areas, Mr W. J. Walter, was returned ur-_pposed. He describes himself as an independent, but he has shown no strong Labour leanings. In the Ric-carton-Fendalton district, Mr A. McLauchlan (Citizens’ Association) was elected, displacing Mr G. T. Thurston (Labour), who won at the last election on a minority vote. Ih the Heathcote district Mr J. S. Barr (Labour) has a lead over Mr F. Thompson (Citizens’ Association), a former general manager of the tramways. Mr Barr”s return seems certain, but the final figures are not available. In the Central Area Labour won all six seats by handsome majorities. The elected members for this area are: Messrs J. K. Archer, H. E. Denton. R. M. Macfarlane. G. Manning. J. Mathison and E. Parlane.
