WEDDING
CONNOLLY—MAGGIN A wedding of interest to many South Canterbury people was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Manchester Street, Christchurch, on Wednesday, when Thomas Connolly, of Rakaia, and formerly of Geraldine, was united in the bonds of holy matrimony to Noreen Catherine, only daughter of Mr and Mrs P. J. Maggin, St. Albans. The bridegroom is the third son of the late Mr M. and Mrs Jeremiah Connolly (Rakaia) formerly M.P. for MidCanterbury. The Rev. Father Alrldge officiated and Miss Dorothy Blake presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a trained gown of cream satin, cut on classical lines, with long full sleeves and a cowled neckline caught with a silver clip. Her girdle of satin had silver tassels, and her tulle veil was caught by orange blossom. She carried a crescent-shaped bouquet of longiflorum lilies, cream roses and bouvardia. The bridesmaid, Miss Lorna Cordner, wore a pink lace frock in leaf design over matalasse, with four frilled godets and full frilled puffed sleeves of georgette. Her picture hat of black crinoline straw was finished with a pink rose, and she carried a bouquet of pink roses, carnations and bouvardia. Dr. B. E. P. McCullough was best man.
The reception was held at the Hotel Federal, where Mrs Maggin received the guests. When Mr and Mrs Connolly left on a tour of the North Island, the bride was wearing a tide blue self-checked crepe ensemble with a blue straw hat. Their future home will be at “Langchen,” Rakaia.
