WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SEADOWN The Seadown Women's Institute held its monthly meeting in the School. Owing to the inclement weather there was a poor attendance over which Mrs R. Hewson presided. Correspondence was received asking members to help with the sales table at the half-yearly meeting in Timaru. Members were reminded of the rose show at Milford and their support was asked for.
A letter of thanks was received from Mr Twomey, Christchurch, for parcels sent for the Makogal Lepers.
Goods to the value of £2/6/3 were sold on behalf of the Disabled Soldiers, Christchurch, and a letter of thanks was received from the secretary.
A competition for the boy and girl who handed in the most white butterflies in a given time, for which the Women’s Institute gave two trophies, was won by Gibson Millar (boys), and Joan Pemberton (girls) 1432 butterflies being handed in. The competitions for the month resulted.—Fruit set in jelly: Mrs R. Hewson 1. Flowers: Mrs Oldfield 1, Mrs Topham 2. The hostesses were: Mesdames Topham, Oldfield and W. Smith.
