SOCIAL AT TYCHO

RESIDENTS FAREWELLED A large gathering of residents and friends met in the Tycho School recently to say farewell to Mr and Mrs Barbour and Misses Doris and June Barbour, who are leaving the district. Apologies were -■'ceived from Mr and Mrs Bain, Mr Jamieson, Mr Black, Mr J. McLeod, Mr R. Doake and Mr O’Sullivan. The chairman, Mr C. M. Talbot, expressed pleasure at seeing so many present, which, he said, showed the esteem in which the Barbour family was held. He extended a cordial welcome to the newcomers to the district Mr and Mrs Allen. Mr W. A. Morrison said that Mr and Mrs Barbour had been in Tycho for 32 years, and during that time had alw s been active in the interests of the district. He wished them many years of happy retirement. The Rev. W. McNeur, on behalf of the Presbyterian Church, added his good wishes. Mr Murray, Rosewill, recalled earlier days, when he and Mr Barbour had both taken up land. Mrs Marshall said she had known Mr and Mrs Barbour since their arrival in the district and they had been very good neighbours. Mr Smith and Mr McPhedran endorsed these remarks. Mr Talbot then presented Mr and Mrs Barbour with two arm chairs and Miss June Barbour with a fountain pen, while Miss Isabel Gibson presented Miss Doris Barbour with a jewel case. Mrs McLeod, asked Miss Doris Barbour to accept a pretty candlestick to remind her of her fellow members of the Women’s Institute. As president of the Tennis Club, Mr A. Gibson said they would miss Miss Doris Barbour, who had been a good and active member, asked Miss Bernadette O’Boyle to present her with a handsome handb-" from members of the Tenis Club. Tlie evening was mainly spent in dancing. Songs were given by Mrs C. T. Stewart and Mr F. Biggs, and a bag-pipe solo by Mr Allen. Mr O. Bain was M.C.
