FINANCE FOR AIR SERVICES
GENEROUS OFFER BY BRITAIN HELP FOR TRANS-TASMAN LINK United Press Association—By E?©«tric Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 24, 8.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 24. The aviation correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph” says: “It is now revealed that substantial concessions have been made to Australia on the original flying boat plans for the England to Australia air mail service. In addition to guaranteeing absolute freedom of operation on the Australian internal services, Britain has agreed to take a greater share of the cost of the flying boat scheme, in the interests of inter-Empire communication. Britain will also pay half the cost of the service between Australia and New Zealand. NO NEWS IN NEW ZEALAND STATEMBENT BY PRIME MINISTER (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 24 No details of any new proposals for an air mail service from England to Australia and its extension across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand, have yet been received by the New Zealand Government, according to a statement made by the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) when the cable message from Sydney dealing with the matter was referred to him this evening. The points disclosed, he said, were entirely new to him, and had certainly not been communicated officially to the Dominion. “As I have already stated, we have invited an official from the Air Ministry in Great Britain to come to New Zealand,” Mr Savage said. “The purpose of his visit will be, not only to discuss aerial defence, but to advise us on civil aviation as well. The understanding is that the proposals connected with the trans-Tasman service should be discussed with this official when he arrives in New Zealand.
