RELIEF COMMISSION

TWO RESIGNATIONS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, May 2. The Minister of Justice (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe) stated to-day that he received the resignations of Messrs C. M’lntyre and M’Donald, two of the three members of the Wellington District Mortgagors Relief Commission. When asked for the reason for this development, Mr Cobbe replied: “I have telegraphed each gentleman asking to be supplied with the reasons for the step taken.” The Government is unable to give any indication regarding the directorate of the Mortgage Bond Corporation, and! it is probable that the prospectus inviting the subscription of £500,000 capital will be issued without this information as the shareholders’ directors cannot be appointed until there is a shareholders’ list from which to select. Two of the most important positions are those of managing directors, and it is expected that these will be selected from the Government service. One certainly appears to be Mr G. E. Miller, the recently appointed superintendent of the State Advances Department, whose mortgages will be taken over by the new organisation. Another likely appointee mentioned is Mr J. Snell, head of the Public Trust Mortgage Division, although the securities held by this office are not included in the scope of the Mortgage Bond Corporation.
