WORK AT ADDINGTON

Though overcast, the weather was fine for training operations at Addington this morning. The course was in good order. The presence of the two Derby candidates Moana Tama and Donalda added interest to the proceedings, but neither three-year-old was asked to break the watch. Young Travis made his reappearance after his two successes at Greymouth, and paced two miles. He was under restraint during the early part of the trial, but completed the last half mile in lmin 7sec.

War Paint did useful work and sprinted four furlongs hi lmin 11 2-ssec.

Sea Lord went a mile in 2min 25sec. Worthy Queen left five seconds in front of Ironside and had nine seconds start from Vesuvius as she left the mile and a quarter post to a flying start. Worthy Queen trotted the first halfmile in lmin 10 2-ssec, and the mile in 2min 19sec, at which stage of the trip Ironside was within a length of her, with Vesuvius making up his ground in good style. Once into the straight. Ironside caught Worthy Queen and they finished on terms. Worthy Queen recorded 2min 50 3-ssec, and Ironside 2min 45 3-ssec. Vesuvius was separately timed to compass the tert furlongs in 2min 43 2-ssec. He did his first half-mile in lmin 6 2-ssec, and the mile in 2min 11 3-ssec. He paced the last two furlongs in 32see after easing up over the last twenty yards. Golden Direct had a start from Prairie King in a bout over a mile, the last four furlongs being done, by Golden Direct in lmin 6 2-ssec. Prairie King covered the same distance in lmin ssec.

Garner Pleases.

Garner pleased by the manner in which she glided over a mile and a half in 3min 30sec. The first mile occupied 2min 22 l-ssec. Rey Spec slipped away from the two mile post with Biddy Parrish in close attendance. Rey Spec paced attractively to be in front of his companion all the way, and registered 4min 37sec. He covered his first four furlongs in lmin 14 2-ssec. a mile in 2mm 24sec, and a mile and a half in 3min 30 4-ssec. He accounted for the concluding mile in 2min 13sec, and his last four- furlongs in lmin 6 l-ssec. Biddy Parrish did 4min 38sec.

Agile was responsible for a mile and a half in 3min 39sec, after taking 2min 29sec to negotiate his first mile. Belinda left on a mile and a half mission. She was picked up at the end of two furlongs by Tempest. Belinda got down to the half-mile in lmin 9sec, and the mile in 2min 15sec. Tempest headed her over the last fifty yards to beat Belinda by half a length. Belinda’s time for the twelve furlongs was 3min 19 4-ssec. Tempest paced the ten furlongs in 2min 44 2-5. He covered his last mile in 2min 13 2-ssec. Blandford, Linklight and Attorney left two seconds in front of Tramfast and had four seconds’ start from Rollo as they left the two mile post. Blandford made the pace until a mile and five furlongs were completed, where Blandford, Linklight and Attorney were pulled up. Trampfast and Rollo went on to complete two miles. Rollo was driven wide out all the way and his sectional times were: Half-mile lmin 7sec, mile 2min 17 2-ssec, mile and a half in 3min 25 2-ssec, mile and threequarters 3min 59 4-ssec, and the two miles in 4min 36sec. Trampfast recorded 2min 17sec for the first mile, mile and a half in 3min 26 2-ssec, and two miles in 4min 37see. Both horses were allowed to ease up over the last furlong. Don Chenault trotted away from the mile and a half post, having nearly one second’s start from Donalda and seven seconds from Cloudy Range. Don Chenault passed the half-mile post in lmin 14sec and reached the mile disc in 2min 22 2-ssec. Donalda headed Don Chenault in the straight, where Cloudy Range drew up to test Donalda, In the run home Cloudy Range beat Donalda by a neck. Donalda’s time for the twelve furlongs was 3min 27 2-ssec. Cloudy Range did 3min 21 l-ssec, and Don Chenault 3min 30sec.

Derby Favourite. Native Son acted as pacemaker to Moana Tama in an assignment over a mile and a half. Moana Tama paced his first four furlongs in. lmin llsec, mile in 2min 20 2-ssec, mile and a quarter in 2min 56 2-ssec, and mile and a half in 3min 29 2-ssec. Gay Sister led General Wrack, with Explosion three seconds behind him. as they left the mile and a half post. Gay Sister paced the first mile ill 2min 20sec, and the mile and a half in 3min 25sec. Explosion trotted the journey in 3min 22sec.

Linella’s task was a mile and a half in 3min 20sec. taking 2min 14 l-ssec to cover the first mile. She was built up a little since she last raced at Addington. Happi went a mile in 2min 12 2-ssec. Colonial Boy, Major Lind and Hollybank went two miles in 4min 33sec. taking 2min 15sec to negotiate the first mile. Sylvia Sydney and Grace M’Elwyn dashed over a mile and a quarter in 2min 52sec. The first mile was left behind in 2min 21sec. Somerby and Midshipmaid were responsible for a mile and a quarter in 2min 46sec. C.J.C. MEETING By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, November 1.
