RICCARTON NOTES

FINAL GALLOPS (Special to "The Timaru Herald”) CHRISTCHURCH. November 1. Conditions were entirely favourable for training operations at Riccarton this morning, when the outside of the course proper was available for fast work. Horowhenua and Wee Musk ran seven furlongs in lmin 34sec. Orris and Chidden were sent a mile which they completed in lmin 43 4-ssec. Cricket Bat showed that he is himself again by an excellent effort over a mile. He did the trip in lmin 41sec. and nothing approached the time in the pre-breakfast session. Free Air and Red Sun were companions for a work-out over a mile and a quarter. They did the full journey in 2min 18sec, the last mile in lmin 49sec. Rocket and Horn’s Reef got to the end of a mile in lmin 45 2-ssec. A similar journey took Streamline and Trumpet Blast lmin 47sec. Fracas ran seven furlongs in lmin 34 2-ssec.

Variant and Hostis went half a mile in 50sec. Copyist, as usual, went along the back and did his four furlings in 49 2-ssec. Custodian and Knock Out got over seven furlongs attractively in lmin 30 l-ssec.

Picked up by Stability near the five furlongs, Sibella ran a mile in lmin 46 3-ssec.

Sporting Blood and Mother Superior were companions for seven furlongs in lmin 31sec, the last half-mile in 52sec. Rebel Star and Maroha took lmin 31 l-ssec for a similar task. Gold Trail and Walton Park were associated for a mile and a quarter. The first two furlongs occupied 29sec. They clapped more pace on at the seven furlongs. The full trip occupied 2min 152 sec, and the last seven furlongs lmin 33sec. Gold Trail was several lengths in front at the finish. Grand Sport dashed over half a mile in 49 2-ssec, and Pompeii equalled that effort.

On the plough Aesculus beat Chaste comfortably over six furlongs in lmin 19sec. Sea Fox on the same track, registered lmin 20sec.

After Breakfast-

Proceedings were much busier after breakfast. The Smuggler jumped away from the mile and a quarter post and was joined by Signaller at the mile. The Smuggler completed his task in 2min 11 3-ssec, the last mile in lmin 43 2-ssec. He went pleasingly, coming home well. Haut Monde beat Desert Chief with Gay Circle several lengths away over half a mile in 49sec. Sam Smith and Southdown easily beat Cleaner and Strong Light, who had led early, over seven furlongs in lmin 30 2-ssec.

Cherry Queen easily beat Tizzy over five furlongs in lmin 2 3-ssec. Haere Tonu was too good for Hostile over five furlongs in lmin 3sec. Importance and Coalpit went six furlongs in lmin 22sec.

Silver Streak was a head in front of Cranford when six furlongs had been run in lmin 16sec.

Tout le Monde and The Masquerader ran five furlongs in lmin 3 3-ssec. Pin Money was intended to go six furlongs, but he covered a mile in lmin 43sec, the first half in 50 2-ssec. Hine Ra beat Marcus Cicero over half a mile in 49sec. Scratchmere Scar and Heather Glow were well in front of Palatinate at the end of a mile run in lmin 42 3-ssec. Going along the back, Grecian Prince ran half a mile in 49sec. Red Manfred covered a mile in lmin 43sec.

Penelope, Silver Sail, and Greek Shepherd were in that order when half a mile had been run in 49sec. Master Reynard beat Sky Rover over seven furlongs in lmin 30 l-ssec. Earthquake and Polygraph went a mile in lmin 45sec.

Some Shamble and Silver Sight did the last mile of a mile and a quarter gallop in lmin 44 l-ssec. Quietly joined in for the last seven furlongs. Along the back Knockfin ran half a mile in 49 3-ssec. Fair Weather went six furlongs in lmin 20sec.

Vintage equalled the time of Cricket Bat for a mile—lmin 41sec. He has worked very attractively this week. Hounslow and Jolly Beggar beat Punchestown over a mile in lmin 44 3-ssec.

Manetho was lmin 21sec over six furlongs.

First Course took lmin 32 2-ssec for seven furlongs. Bun Fight dashed over half a mile in 49 2-ssec.

Tunneller and Silver Step ran six furlongs in lmin 18 2-ssec. Davolo and Rebel Chief beat Golden Dart over seven furlongs in lmin 29sec.

Capital and Secret Paper were to have worked together, but Capital broke away in front and ran six furlongs in lmin 15 4-ssec.

Four Cup Candidates,

Polydora, Sweet Agnes, Cough and Ranelagh were associated for a gallop over a mile and a quarter. Cough led early, with Polydora last. Cough dropped back in the straight, where Ranelagh took charge, but Polydora put in a great finish and they passed the post with Polydora in front from Ranelagh, Sweet Agnes and Cough, with gaps between them. The ten furlongs were run in 2min 8 4-ssec, and th< last mile in lmin 42 2-ssec. Elbanor covered six furlongs in lmin 16 4-ssec. Gaysome did a furlong less in lmin 2 l-ssec.

Cheap Money and First View galloped seven furlongs in lmin 34 2-ssec. Gold Cross and Wise Choice ran six furlongs in lmin 17 3-ssec.

Jerry Boy (Scobie) jumped the brush hurdles well.

Gold Knight (D. O’Connor) did not seem to fancy the brush hurdles, but when he was joined by Monastic (H. Turner), both horses jumped well.
