EMPIRE SERVICE LEAGUE

DEPARTURE OF DELEGATES TO CONFERENCE By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, October 30. Delegates from Great Britain, Canada and New Zealand to the biennial conference of the British Empire Service League at Melbourne, who have assembled in Auckland during the last few days, left for Australia by the Monowai and the Niagara. Members and those interested in the work of the League were at the wharf to farewell both vessels. Those who left by the Monowai were General Sir Alexander Godley, representing Great Britain, Major-General Sir Andrew Resell, the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C., Messrs J. D. Harper and B. C. Jacobs, New Zealand representatives. Captain Sir lan Fraser, also representing Great Britain, and Brigadier-General Alexander Ross, president of the Canadian Legion, left by the Niagara. At a reception to Sir Alexander Godley and Lady Godley by the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association, Sir Alexander Godley, Sir Andrew Russell, Sir lan Fraser and General Ross were presented with silver mounted inlaid walking sticks made from wood taken from the Arapuni. buried forest. General Ross said that the gathering was so like others he had attended in Canada that it was hard to realise he was more than 8000 miles from home. Its atmosphere was redolent of the spirit of empire.
