WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
ASHWICK FLAT At the monthly meeting of the Ashwick Flat Women’s Institute, Miss Maxine Whatman presided over a good attendance of members, and extended a welcome to new members and visitors from Fairlie, Kimbell and Sherwood Downs. The motto for the month, artistically prepared by Mrs E. W. Allan, was “There is no greater folly than the folly of throwing away friendships, in a world where true friendship is so rare.”
Mrs J. Ross was elected delegate to represent the Institute at the halfyearly Federation meeting at Temuka. A demonstration of papier mache modelling was given by Miss Whatman who exhibited samples of her work. The competitions proved very popular, and the entries were of a high standard. The results were: Specimen bloom, Mrs R. Allan 1, Mrs J. Ross 2; teased wool, Mrs L. Whyte 1, Mrs G. E. Jones and Miss E. Wood (equal) 2. The hostess for the afternoon was Miss Wood.
